Deaf and hard-of-hearing riders can now communicate more easily with RTA staff through Convo Access, a live American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation service available on RTA buses and at RTA facilities.
Beginning October 1, 2026, riders can use Convo Access to connect with a live ASL interpreter in real time using their smartphone. Whether you need information about routes, schedules, fares, service alerts or trip planning, an interpreter can help facilitate communication with RTA staff.
How It Works
Using Convo Access is simple:
Scan the QR code displayed on any RTA bus or at an RTA facility.
Connect instantly with a live ASL interpreter using your smartphone.
Communicate with an RTA employee through the interpreter.
No appointments, special equipment or advanced scheduling are required.
Improving Accessibility for Our Riders
Convo Access helps remove communication barriers by providing on-demand ASL interpretation when riders need assistance from RTA staff. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, approximately 3 out of every 100 Riverside County residents report having a hearing difficulty.
RTA is proud to be the first transit agency west of the Mississippi River to implement Convo Access, demonstrating its commitment to expanding accessibility and communication access for customers.
About Convo
Convo has partnered with transit agencies across the country to improve communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing customers, including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), NJ Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
By bringing Convo Access to western Riverside County, RTA continues its commitment to providing safe, reliable and accessible transportation for everyone.
RTA is offering free fares on all local, CommuterLink, and GoMicro services on October 7 in recognition of California Clean Air Day. Leave your car at home and ride free while helping reduce traffic, cut pollution and support cleaner, healthier air in our communities. Whether you're commuting to work, heading to school or running errands, taking public transit is an easy way to make a positive impact.
Together, we can improve air quality and create a more sustainable future for Riverside County.
